A TMC leader was reportedly hacked to death in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, according to police reports on Thursday. The victim, identified as Masiur Gazi, was the president of booth number 178 within the Champatala gram panchayat, situated in the Deganga area, a senior TMC official confirmed.
The gruesome discovery of Gazi's blood-soaked body was made on the roadside near Nobbai Pat Gheri in the Haroa police station area on Thursday, a police officer stated. As a prominent garment trader and local political figure, Gazi's untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the community.
Early investigations suggest Gazi was killed elsewhere, and his body was later disposed at the location. Police are exploring all possible leads, including internal party rivalries and business antagonisms. Masiur Gazi's death has heightened political tensions in the district amid the upcoming assembly elections, set for April 29.
