Aryadan Shoukath, UDF candidate for Nilambur in the upcoming 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, is confident of victory due to a strong anti-incumbency sentiment against the LDF. Aryadan Shoukath, representing the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) as their candidate for Nilambur in Kerala's 2026 Assembly elections, has expressed strong confidence in securing a win. He attributes this to a growing anti-incumbency wave against the reigning Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the region.
Emphasizing past successes, Shoukath mentioned the UDF's recent by-election triumph where he defeated the LDF's M Swaraj by a significant 11,077 votes. He stated, "In Nilambur, conditions wholeheartedly favor us, especially the UDF and myself. The by-election victory, just eight months ago, showcased our eminent lead." During his eight-month tenure post-election, Shoukath focused on local improvement initiatives and now predicts an even wider victory margin, expecting over 20,000 more votes. He criticized the LDF's neglect of Nilambur over the past decade.
Shoukath's candidacy was confirmed among 55 others by Congress for the state elections, set for April 9. Results will be declared on May 4. Noteworthy candidates include Kerala Congress Committee President Sunny Joseph from Peravoor, and Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan from Paravur. The main competition will see the LDF, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), going up against the UDF, with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) also in contention.
