BNP Victory: A Shield Against Islamist Radicals in Bangladesh
Writer Taslima Nasrin, commenting on the recent elections in Bangladesh, suggested that the BNP's win reflects the public's desire to keep Islamist radicals like Jamaat-e-Islami from power. She hopes for improved conditions under new leadership and highlighted issues faced by minorities in both Bangladesh and India.

Amid the recent electoral win by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), writer Taslima Nasrin stressed that the outcome was more about rejecting Islamist radicals than the party's popularity. According to Nasrin, the presence of Pakistan-backed radicals as a significant opposition does not bode well for Bangladesh’s democratic values.
In February 2026, the BNP, led by Tarique Rahman, secured a commanding majority in the Jatiya Sansad, winning 209 of 298 seats. Despite visible support at rallies, Jamaat and its allies captured only 77 seats. Nasrin believes the BNP's success reflects the people's desire for a safer national environment.
Furthermore, Nasrin commented on the plight of minorities and drew parallels between conditions in Bangladesh and India. She also voiced her strong opinions on the Iranian regime and the U.S.-Israel military interventions that led to civilian casualties. Despite living in exile, Nasrin continues to advocate for progressive values and minority rights.
