The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has declared its support for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, adhering to the directive of party leader Mamata Banerjee. This development unfolds as the second phase of the budget session is poised to begin on March 9.

Three Congress MPs, Mohammad Jawed, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Mallu Ravi, plan to table the resolution against Speaker Birla, accusing him of bias and unjustly targeting opposition members. Allegations include improper conduct towards women MPs and an apparent leniency towards ruling party members despite their derogatory remarks.

The Congress party's list of grievances highlights Speaker Birla's decisions to suspend opposition MPs while overlooking transgressions by government MPs, raising concerns about his impartiality. The BJP and Congress have issued a 'three-line whip' to ensure presence in the House, as the budget session promises a contentious discourse.
