At the Raisina Dialogue, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar declared the era of dominant nations creating spheres of influence as a relic of the past, projecting a future defined by multipolarity. In the interactive session, Jaishankar stated that no nation today can claim overarching hegemony across global domains.
The minister underscored that a multipolar world isn't merely about gross domestic product and capabilities spread but entails diverse global regions contributing in unique ways across various domains. He also emphasized that bigger countries might form temporary alliances on certain issues, but sweeping power dynamics are no longer feasible.
Jaishankar argued that multipolarity is compatible with multilateralism, rejecting the notion that the latter's success requires weakening the former. India's efforts in organizing the Voice of Global South meetings underscore a fresh foundation for a Global South platform amidst these shifts.
