In a significant political development, Babulal Marandi, former Jharkhand BJP president, has urged the State Election Commissioner to ramp up security measures for the upcoming urban local body polls by deploying paramilitary forces and installing CCTV cameras at polling stations.

The elections, planned for February 23 with vote counting on February 27, have drawn criticism from Marandi, who accuses the state government of reluctance, only proceeding following directives from the Jharkhand High Court.

Additionally, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh accused the JMM-led government of avoiding party-based polls, fearing the BJP's influence, and claimed that BJP-supported candidates are expected to secure a decisive victory.
