In an unprecedented electoral scenario, women voters are anticipated to be pivotal in determining the results of civic elections across 14 urban local bodies in Jharkhand, according to official statements on Saturday. Female constituents surpass male voters on the electoral rolls, emphasizing their potential impact in these contests.

The civic elections, covering 48 urban local bodies including the capital Ranchi, are scheduled for February 23, with results to be declared on February 27. Unlike typical party-symbol-based contests, the elections will see candidates backed by various political factions.

Candidates, supported mainly by ruling and opposition parties, are making considerable efforts to secure women's votes through promises of pensions, welfare schemes, and assurances of safety. Notably, the Gumla Nagar Parishad has recorded the highest number of female voters, totaling 18,763 compared to 16,819 male voters, highlighting the gender demographic shift in these polls.
