EC Flags West Bengal's Lapses in Electoral Procedures

The Election Commission (EC) raised concerns on Wednesday about the West Bengal government's alleged failure to adhere to numerous directives concerning electoral proceedings. This critical feedback was communicated in a letter addressed to the state's chief secretary, demanding swift compliance.

The EC highlighted multiple discrepancies, including the absence of FIRs against certain Electoral Registration Officers and their assistants, which was expected according to past mandates. Additionally, wrongful appointments and suspensions within the election process have drawn the commission's attention.

Further, the EC criticized the appointment and transfer of electoral officers, not aligning with previously set standards. The commission has given a firm deadline for rectification of these issues, emphasizing that any delays compromise accountability and transparency in the state's electoral process.
