On Wednesday, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav blasted the Indian government's recent trade agreement with the United States, accusing it of being a 'dheel' or relaxation. He expressed concerns about how it could impact traditional fasting rituals if US dairy and agricultural products flood the Indian market.
Pointing fingers at the ruling BJP's allies, Yadav questioned their silence on the Swadeshi movement. Despite Minister Piyush Goyal's assurance that sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy remain protected, Yadav warned that the deal, which reduces tariffs on Indian goods to 18%, was part of a broader political squabble.
Defending Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's demand for transparency in India's relations with China, Yadav stressed the importance of parliamentary discussions. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha faced disruptions due to opposition protests, with members criticizing what they termed as a compromised stance by the Prime Minister.
