In the midst of swirling rumors about potential reunification, Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare has asserted the party's decision to align with the BJP-led NDA, cementing its current political stance. Former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's recent passing has cast a shadow over proceedings, particularly with the promotion of Sunetra Pawar to the deputy chief minister position.

Tatkare expressed the decision to appoint Sunetra Pawar, wife of the late Ajit Pawar, as the NCP legislature party leader was made independently by the party. This comes amid speculation about an impending merger between rival factions of the NCP and the Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (SP), purportedly in discussion before Ajit Pawar's untimely death in a plane crash.

Meanwhile, NCP (SP) leaders, including Sharad Pawar, affirm that merger talks were at an advanced stage before Ajit Pawar's demise. However, the absence of significant NCP (SP) figures at Sunetra Pawar's swearing-in has sparked questions. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar suspects a conspiracy preventing the merger, criticizing the focus on political maneuvers over the late leader's death.
