Congress MP Jairam Ramesh recently announced that India will no longer host the Quad summit, citing rising tensions between India and the United States. These tensions have been fueled by President Donald Trump's repeated claims of mediating between India and Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Ramesh highlighted the challenge India faces in finalizing a trade deal with the US, noting the unexpected delay in hosting the Quad Summit initially scheduled for November 2025. He expressed concerns over declining exports to the US, impacting Indian livelihoods, particularly after Trump's assertions interfered in diplomacy.
In an interview, Trump reiterated his role in averting potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, claiming tariffs incentivized de-escalation. India, however, insists bilateral negotiations, not third-party interventions, led to ceasefire success. Reports suggest Trump's involvement in Quad talks may be diminishing, with his visit plans recently canceled.
