Taiwan Optimistic About U.S. Relations Amid Tensions
Taiwan remains confident in its ties with the U.S., despite concerns over a pivotal meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders, which might impact Taiwan's interests. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung assured of strong communication with the U.S., as President Trump navigates diplomatic complexities involving Taiwan and China.
Taiwan expresses confidence in its relationship with the United States, according to Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. This comes ahead of a critical meeting between the presidents of the U.S. and China, where Taiwan's status could be discussed. Lin emphasized continued collaboration between Taiwan and the U.S. on security and other key issues.
Since taking office, President Donald Trump has fluctuated in his stance on Taiwan, a key point of contention in U.S.-China relations amid ongoing trade talks. While Trump claims assurances from Chinese President Xi Jinping against any invasion during his presidency, he has yet to authorize new arms sales to Taipei.
Concern looms in Taipei over the possibility that the Trump-Xi meeting at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit could lead to compromises affecting Taiwan. However, Lin highlighted solid communication and cooperation with the U.S., reinforcing Taiwan's confidence in the enduring partnership.
