In a critical address, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam dismissed the Opposition's forthcoming protest against the Election Commission as little more than a 'political stunt.' Nirupam decried the narrative of electoral roll discrepancies as fabricated, asserting that such claims have been unequivocally exposed.
Speaking at a press conference, Nirupam attributed Uddhav Thackeray's insistence on postponing local elections until the rectification of electoral rolls to an underlying fear of electoral defeat. He underscored the Supreme Court's directive mandating the completion of local body elections by January 2026, which precludes any Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra.
Nirupam further challenged the allegations of irregularities, advising the opposition to formally petition the poll body if they uncover errors instead of staging public protests. In his remarks, he targeted Aaditya Thackeray, questioning the legitimacy of previous election victories if such discrepancies existed.
