Diplomacy and Tension: Dmitriev's View on Ukraine Peace Prospects

During a visit to Saudi Arabia, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, expressed optimism that the war in Ukraine might conclude within a year. Dmitriev's remarks came after recent talks with officials from the Trump administration, following a delayed summit between Trump and Putin in Budapest.
Addressing an investment conference in Riyadh, Dmitriev, who also heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated his commitment to peace efforts. He suggested that diplomatic solutions with the U.S. were on the horizon, a sentiment reinforced by the negotiation team including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Despite facing criticism from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as a 'Russian propagandist,' Dmitriev's peace initiatives and advocacy for cooperation between Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, are deemed essential for global stability. He stresses the importance of preventing regional conflicts from escalating.
