On Wednesday morning, President Droupadi Murmu's helicopter encountered an unexpected landing issue on a newly concreted helipad at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Pramadam during her Sabarimala visit. The helicopter's wheels became stuck in depressions formed on the fresh concrete surface.
After the President proceeded to Pamba by road, television visuals captured fire personnel and policemen pushing the helicopter's wheels free. Pathanamthitta District Collector Prem Krishnan stated there were no security concerns, adding that a slight sinking of about half-an-inch was observed at the landing spot.
The incident provoked political reactions, with Congress and BJP alleging security lapses by the state government. Former Union Minister V Muraleedharan demanded accountability, while local officials attributed the issue to last-minute changes in the landing plan and the quick-drying concrete used.
