The disturbing texts were sent regarding Jeffries' upcoming appearance in New York City, as outlined in a court document.

The complaint, filed in New York state court, indicates that Moynihan's messages caused the recipient to fear for Jeffries' life. Moynihan's past includes a 21-month prison sentence for his role in the Capitol insurrection, part of a broader effort by rioters to impede the certification of President Biden's election victory.

Jeffries' office has yet to comment on the situation. Moynihan faces a Class D felony charge for making a terroristic threat, underscoring the enduring impact of the January 6 events on American political life.
