The Dutch data regulator issued a warning against using AI chatbots for election advice, stating these platforms provide unreliable guidance and sway voters towards two major political parties. The upcoming election sees a multitude of parties vying for votes, yet chatbots predominantly recommend the Freedom Party or the Labour-Green Left coalition.

Currently, 15 parties occupy seats in the Dutch parliament, but chatbots directed voters in 56% of cases to choose between the far-right Freedom Party, anticipated to capture 20% of the vote, and the Labour-Green Left coalition, expected to secure 16% on October 29. This highlights a concerning bias within AI advice systems.

Monique Verdier, the vice-chair of the Dutch data protection watchdog, remarked on the ineffectiveness of chatbots as voting aids, labeling their operations as "unclear and difficult to verify." This cautionary message follows the collapse of a right-wing coalition and arises amidst a politically charged atmosphere, with over 13 million Dutch citizens eligible to vote.
