Reinforcing the central role of grassroots democracy in India's development journey, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj today commemorated National Panchayati Raj Day, marking 33 years of the landmark 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, which granted constitutional status to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
The national event, held in New Delhi, brought together elected representatives of Gram Panchayats and officials from multiple states, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, reflecting the growing importance of local governance in shaping India's development trajectory.
Prime Minister Highlights Role of Grassroots Leadership
On the occasion, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi extended greetings to Panchayat representatives across the country, acknowledging their contribution to nation-building.
"Your dedication to public service and service to the nation is truly inspiring for everyone," the Prime Minister stated in a message read out during the event.
His message was widely disseminated to PRI functionaries across states and Union Territories, reinforcing the importance of participatory governance and local leadership.

Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, emphasized that Panchayati Raj Institutions form the backbone of sustainable rural development.
