Maharashtra's Bold Move Against Child Marriages: Mandatory Birth Dates on Wedding Cards

The Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken a significant step by suggesting mandatory birth dates on wedding invitations, similar to the practice in Rajasthan. This measure aims to curb the prevalent issue of child marriages.

In a recent hearing, commission member Sanjay Lakhe Patil expressed concern over suspected cases of minor girls becoming mothers in Solapur district, labeling it a severe violation of child rights. A joint investigation has been ordered to address this pressing issue.

The commission has instructed the formation of a special team, including officials from various departments, to scrutinize the 85 reported cases, enforce legal actions, and provide support to affected minors, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
