Navigating Tensions: Iranian Oil Exports Defy U.S. Blockade

Between April 13-21, Iranian crude exports totaling 10.7 million barrels traversed the U.S.-enforced blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite reduced traffic, some sanctioned vessels slipped through, prompting U.S. military actions, including the interception of Iranian tankers and directing vessels to return to port.

Data from Vortexa reveals that from April 13 to 21, approximately 10.7 million barrels of Iranian crude exited the U.S.-patrolled Strait of Hormuz.

The shipments, carried by vessels with switched-off AIS data, defied a U.S. Navy blockade that spans strategically from Iran to Oman.

The blockade led to a significant drop in Iran-linked traffic, now at 1-2 tankers daily, down from 2-3 per day previously. U.S. forces have instructed 29 vessels to reverse course, intensifying the economic standoff.
