The Supreme Court intervened to pause the life imprisonment sentence handed down to Amit Jogi by the Chhattisgarh High Court for his alleged role in the murder of NCP leader Ramavatar Jaggi in 2003. Amit Jogi, a notable political figure and son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, had been convicted recently.
The apex court, while reviewing the submissions from senior advocates representing both Jogi and the victim's family, decided to halt the execution of the high court’s verdict. The bench handling the case comprises Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and Vijay Bishnoi.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to reexamine the previous findings. The case was originally handled by state police before being transferred to the CBI, which implicated several individuals including Jogi. Further developments in this high-profile case are awaited.
