Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of AIMIM, criticized the BJP's stance on the Uniform Civil Code during a rally in Ahmedabad, urging voters to reject the ruling party in upcoming local elections. Owaisi contended that the proposed law posed a threat to Shariat, the Islamic legal framework, and implored constituents to consider this when voting.

The Gujarat Assembly had passed the UCC Bill, 2026, becoming the second state to do so, following Uttarakhand. Owaisi argued that the legislation would impose uniform legal structures that could undermine Muslim practices related to marriage, divorce, and inheritance, and expressed intentions to legally contest such laws.

Reminding the audience of a terror attack in Pahalgam last year, Owaisi emphasized national security concerns and criticized Pakistan and Israel for fostering regional instability. He also urged listeners to embrace leadership roles within the minority community to ensure their rights and representation on the national stage.
