Emphasizing the transformative role of young minds in shaping India's future, the Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, today addressed the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the Central University of Karnataka, urging graduates to become active contributors to nation-building and drivers of innovation in a rapidly evolving world.
Addressing a gathering of graduating students, faculty, and dignitaries, the Vice President described the convocation not merely as an academic milestone, but as a defining moment where education meets responsibility. "As you step into a new phase of life, you carry with you not just degrees, but the responsibility to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation," he said.
Youth at the Core of India's Growth Story
Highlighting India's accelerating growth trajectory, Shri Radhakrishnan noted that the country stands at a pivotal juncture, with unprecedented opportunities across sectors driven by technological advancement, demographic strength, and policy reforms.
Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat", the Vice President described it as a collective national mission requiring participation from every citizen, particularly the youth. He called upon graduates to lead with integrity, embrace innovation, and align their ambitions with the broader goals of national development.
"India's journey towards becoming a developed nation is not the responsibility of the government alone—it is a shared aspiration that demands dedication, creativity, and commitment from every young Indian," he said.
Aatma Nirbhar Bharat: Self-Reliance with Global Competitiveness
Underscoring the importance of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, the Vice President highlighted that self-reliance is not about isolation, but about strengthening domestic capabilities while remaining globally competitive.
He stressed the need for fostering innovation, supporting local enterprises, and building resilient economic systems. At the same time, he urged students to stay adaptable in the face of rapid technological disruption, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging industries.
"In today's fast-changing world, continuous learning and skill upgradation are not optional—they are essential for survival and success," he remarked.
Women Leading the Academic and Social Transformation
A key highlight of the convocation was the remarkable performance of women students. Shri Radhakrishnan noted with pride that over 80 percent of the gold medalists at the university this year are women, reflecting a broader national trend where women are consistently excelling in higher education.
Describing this as a powerful manifestation of "Nari Shakti", he said the achievement signals a deeper societal transformation towards gender equality, leadership, and empowerment across sectors.
"This is not just an academic milestone—it is a testament to the rising strength of women in shaping India's future," he observed.
Preparing for a Complex and Changing World
While acknowledging the vast opportunities before graduates, the Vice President also cautioned them about the challenges that lie ahead. He highlighted pressing global issues such as climate change, technological disruption, and widening social inequalities, urging students to approach these challenges with courage, innovation, and a sense of purpose.
He encouraged graduates to redefine success—not merely as personal achievement, but as the ability to create a positive and lasting impact on society.
Balancing Tradition with Modern Aspirations
Calling for a balanced worldview, Shri Radhakrishnan urged students to remain rooted in India's rich cultural and intellectual heritage while embracing modernity and a global outlook. He stressed that India's civilizational values can serve as a guiding force in navigating contemporary challenges.
"Your identity as global citizens should be strengthened, not diluted, by your connection to India's timeless traditions," he said.
Acknowledging the Pillars Behind Student Success
The Vice President also expressed appreciation for parents, faculty members, and the university administration, recognizing their critical role in shaping the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators.
He encouraged graduates to remain resilient in the face of setbacks, learn from failures, and pursue their goals with determination and confidence. "Dream big, act responsibly, and contribute wholeheartedly to building a Viksit Bharat and an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat," he urged.
Distinguished Presence at the Ceremony
The convocation ceremony was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including the Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, and Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka, Prof. Satya Narayana, along with faculty members, staff, parents, and students.
As the graduates embark on their professional journeys, the Vice President's message resonated as both a call to action and a reminder of the vital role youth will play in shaping India's future on the global stage.
