The Haryana Human Rights Commission has expressed grave concern over the non-functioning of numerous CCTV cameras in Panchkula. This follows a media report indicating that almost 200 out of 473 cameras installed by the Municipal Corporation are not operational, impacting public safety and surveillance.

The Commission, led by Chairperson Justice Lalit Batra, noted the detrimental effects on traffic management and law enforcement's capability to monitor public spaces. This administrative oversight has led to diminished electronic traffic challans and increased vulnerability to criminal activities.

Authorities have been tasked to submit a comprehensive report detailing current CCTV functionality, restoration efforts, and accountability measures. This information is crucial ahead of the hearing scheduled for May 20, as the situation calls for immediate remedial action to safeguard public security.
