The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has urged the police to swiftly act against individuals accused of voter intimidation and electoral disruption, according to a senior official.
In an official note to the Director General of Police (DGP), the police observer attached to the CEO's office provided a detailed list of suspected troublemakers spread across different Assembly constituencies and police jurisdictions.
The directive emphasizes taking comprehensive measures. These include registering FIRs, serving notices under appropriate legal provisions, considering preventive detentions, increasing patrol activities in sensitive polling areas, and monitoring the suspects' movements during elections. The intention is to convey an unambiguous message that voter interference will not be tolerated, with accountability enforced for any lapses.
