Kashmir Remembers: Pahalgam's Resilience One Year After Tragedy

Security measures have been intensified across Kashmir in remembrance of 26 individuals killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadows last year. Police and paramilitary forces are now actively deployed across key locations, including tourist hubs, amid expectations of memorial events honoring the victims.

The April 22, 2025, attack by Lashkar-e-Taiba, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists and a local pony-ride operator, resulted in a significant tourist withdrawal from Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities responded by closing nearly 50 tourist areas, some of which reopened post-security audit.

A year later, Pahalgam is once again buzzing with tourists, aided by new safety measures such as vendor background checks and a QR code-based identification system for tourism service providers. These initiatives are aimed at ensuring tourist safety in the 'Mini Switzerland' of Anantnag district, which is steadily overcoming the aftermath of last year's attack.
