Norwegian Swimming Federation: A Stand Against Russian and Belarusian Participation

The Norwegian Swimming Federation has declared it will not host international championships as long as World Aquatics permits Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete with full privileges. This decision emerges amid growing tensions following WA's removal of restrictions and is part of a broader boycott effort led by Norway.

Norwegian Swimming Federation: A Stand Against Russian and Belarusian Participation

The Norwegian Swimming Federation has announced that it will abstain from hosting international championships as long as World Aquatics allows Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate with their flags and anthems. This decision highlights a growing division within the swimming community following WA's recent policy changes.

According to Cato Bratbakk, President of Norway's governing body, the federation will not support events where Russian and Belarusian competitors have full entry rights. These athletes were permitted to rejoin WA events beginning April 14, with their national symbols intact.

Norway is also advocating for a broader regional refusal to host such events, in line with Poland's recent stance. A meeting with Nordic counterparts is set to further discuss collective opposition. World Aquatics, however, maintains its commitment to keeping international swimming events inclusive for all nations.
