Diplomatic Strain: Brazil Responds to U.S. Expulsion
Brazilian President Lula has hinted at potential retaliatory actions following the expulsion of a Brazilian federal police attache from the U.S. The incident has strained diplomatic ties, with Lula stressing the need for respect and opposition to any interference or abuse of authority by American officials.
Brazil's government is considering retaliatory actions following the expulsion of a Brazilian federal police attache from the United States. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva made the announcement, emphasizing Brazil's stance against interference and showing readiness to reciprocate if deemed necessary.
The U.S. embassy in Brasilia has not yet commented on the matter. President Lula, speaking in Hannover, Germany, highlighted the importance of mutual respect between nations and stressed that Brazil will not tolerate any abuse of authority by U.S. officials.
The controversy erupted after the U.S. announced it would expel Brazilian official Marcelo Ivo de Carvalho, allegedly connected to the arrest of ex-Brazilian lawmaker Alexandre Ramagem by U.S. immigration police. Ramagem, charged with plotting a coup with former President Jair Bolsonaro, fled Brazil after a brief detention in the U.S.
