Courageous Raid Frees 200 from Militant Grip
Ugandan and Congolese forces rescued over 200 civilians in a raid on an Islamist camp in eastern Congo. Held by the Allied Democratic Forces, victims faced harsh conditions. The raid, part of efforts against ADF ties to ISIS, highlights ongoing regional security efforts.
In a significant military operation, Ugandan and Congolese soldiers rescued more than 200 civilians from an Islamist militant camp last week in eastern Congo, the Ugandan military announced on Monday.
These civilians were held by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group linked to the Islamic State, notorious for its violent activities in the region. UN reports state that the ADF has been responsible for thousands of deaths in eastern Congo since 2014, alongside numerous abductions and forced marriages perpetrated by its members.
The Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces revealed that among those liberated was a 14-year-old girl. The detainees showed signs of frailty and untreated illnesses. This raid is part of a broader mission that began in 2021 to support Congo's efforts against the ADF, who relocated into Congo after being pushed out of Uganda in the early 2000s.
