In a significant development, a Delhi court has sent Amitabh Jhunjhunwala and Amit Bapna, former senior executives of the Reliance Anil Ambani Group, to judicial custody until May 2. This followed their production by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a bank loan fraud-linked money laundering case.

Special Judge Hasan Anzar, upon completion of their five-day remand, ruled for their custody, acknowledging the crucial stage of the investigation. The ED argued that their release could severely compromise ongoing efforts, citing their potential flight risk and access to influential networks.

Despite requests for separate cells, Judge Anzar left such decisions to the jail authorities. During custody, the accused were confronted with substantial evidence, leading to the identification of certain beneficiaries. The court underscored the need for continued investigation, noting digital evidence and statements had advanced the probe significantly.
