France-Poland Satellite Collaboration Bolsters Defence Ties
France and Poland have partnered to create a telecommunications satellite for Polish military use, strengthening their economic and defense relations. The collaboration involves Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space, and Poland's RADMOR. This project aligns with the European Commission's Readiness defense plan aiming for continental self-defense readiness by 2030.
France and Poland have unveiled a collaborative venture to develop a telecommunications satellite aimed at bolstering military communications for Poland's armed forces. The announcement, made during a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Gdansk, underscores the strengthening economic and defense ties between the two nations.
The joint satellite development involves Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence and Space, and Poland's RADMOR, and is part of the European Commission's flagship Readiness defense plan. The project highlights Europe's effort to establish alternative satellite services to reduce reliance on global competitors like Elon Musk's Starlink, amid geopolitical concerns.
The geostationary satellite, unlike Starlink's low Earth orbit options, will offer expansive coverage from a fixed position, although at slower speeds. Additionally, Macron and Tusk are set to discuss broader topics, including nuclear deterrence and energy cooperation, further solidifying their commitment to European Union unity and defense readiness.
