In a significant ruling, a Thane court has acquitted a 26-year-old woman accused of child trafficking and operating a prostitution ring. The acquittal, delivered by Special Judge SP Agarwal, highlights the prosecution's inability to substantiate their charges with sufficient evidence, casting doubt on police claims.

The case originated from a police operation near Mira Road station in Thane district on April 8, 2021, intended to catch the accused red-handed based on secretive leads suggesting her involvement in supplying women for prostitution. However, the court pointed out numerous discrepancies, including the absence of electronic evidence for a purported phone conversation, crucial to the case angle set by the police.

Significantly, the alleged victims did not support the trafficking allegations in their testimony. Their statements suggested being misled about the nature of the job opportunities being offered. The court also noted the prosecution's failure to establish the minor status of one of the victims, leading to the woman's acquittal.
