Justice Karol Calls for Inclusive Labour Reform and Protection

Justice Sanjay Karol of the Supreme Court highlighted ongoing issues in India’s informal labour sector, calling for robust legal protections during an event celebrating Dr. B R Ambedkar's contributions to labour laws.

Karol underscored that women in informal settings face limited protections, despite comprising nearly half of the population. He also pointed out the persistent problem of child labour, which continues to exist in informal economic sectors despite legal prohibitions.

The justice urged for a broader interpretation of economic progress that includes the well-being and security of labourers, emphasizing the need for fair systems and better protection for children, highlighting the importance of addressing these issues in post-Covid urbanized settings.
