Supreme Court's Day of Decisions: From Liquor Packs to Women's Rights

The Supreme Court tackled a range of public interest litigations on Thursday, from banning liquor sales in Uttar Pradesh to guidelines on displaying the Ashoka Chakra. However, the apex court chose not to entertain these pleas, urging petitioners to approach state authorities and the central government for their concerns.

The court dismissed a request to mandate compulsory voting and refused to interfere with the ongoing proceedings against Anil Ambani regarding banking issues. Additionally, it questioned certain provisions of the Muslim Personal Law, seeking the Centre's insights on claims of discrimination against women.

Despite being inundated with appeals, the court stood firm on its stance regarding electoral officer transfers in West Bengal, defining it as an issue of mistrust. Other key decisions included addressing language translation in legal documents and ensuring fair pay-fixation rules for Army veterans entering civil services.
