The Supreme Court of India has issued a directive to the Election Commission of India (ECI), mandating the inclusion of voters whose claims are upheld by Appellate Tribunals into the electoral rolls before the scheduled polling dates in April. This decisive move was initially suggested during an April 13 hearing in the West Bengal SIR case and was solidified in an order released today.

In a detailed order, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant clarified that pending appeals would not automatically grant voting rights to individuals unless their names are added to a supplementary revised electoral roll. The court has set deadlines of April 21 and April 27, by which the Tribunals must finalize decisions, ensuring that the orders are reflected in updated voter lists.

Concerns over the exclusion of millions of voters were raised, prompting the court to direct continued security measures for judicial officers involved in the Special Intensive Revision exercise. With a majority of claims already resolved, the court expressed satisfaction with the current systems, while stressing ongoing vigilance over security and procedural adherence.
