Supreme Court Petition Seeks Crackdown on Deceitful Religious Conversions

A significant plea has been filed in the Supreme Court concerning allegations of deceitful religious conversions and sexual harassment at a multinational company in Nashik. The petition, lodged by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, requests the judiciary to direct stringent measures in response to these allegations, highlighting threats to national sovereignty and unity.

The plea argues that forced conversions, particularly when conducted systematically, can be classified as terrorist acts under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. It insists on the establishment of special courts to manage cases of fraudulent religious conversions and calls for consecutive sentencing for offenders.

Further emphasizing the petition's stance, it asserts that the Right to Freedom of Religion does not permit conversions through fraudulent means. While individuals are free to practice and propagate their faith, such freedom is not unrestricted, being subject to reasonable limitations like public order, morality, and health.
