A wedding celebration in northeast Delhi turned into a nightmare when a 21-year-old bride-to-be was attacked with acid. The heinous act occurred during the 'mehendi' ritual, where the perpetrator, identified as the groom's girlfriend, allegedly disguised herself as a guest before executing the attack.
The victim, set to marry on April 19, suffered burns to her eyes, face, neck, and hand, and was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. The accused reportedly planned the attack, using the festivities as a cover to smuggle acid into the venue and launch the attack when the opportunity arose.
The acid attack has been attributed to the accused's jealousy, stemming from her relationship with the groom-to-be over the past five years. She was arrested and presented before a local court, which remanded her to judicial custody. An investigation is ongoing to trace the acid's source as authorities continue to monitor the victim's condition.
