In a tragic incident that has shaken Turkey, a 14-year-old student opened fire on two classrooms at a middle school in the Kahramanmaras province, killing nine individuals and wounding 13 others. The Interior Minister confirmed this attack marked the second such shooting within days in the country.
The young gunman, armed with five firearms and seven magazines, believed to belong to his retired police officer father, was killed during the incident. It remains unclear whether police actions or suicide led to his death, officials stated. Six of the 13 wounded are reported to be in critical condition.
Following the attack, which comes just a day after a former student wounded 16 in a nearby Sanliurfa province, authorities detained the shooter's father for questioning and imposed media restrictions on broadcasting traumatic images. The Turkish authorities are investigating the motive behind this rare school shooting.
