A Delhi court on Wednesday ordered Sarabjeet Singh, who breached security at the Legislative Assembly, into five days of judicial custody. Singh forced his way into the complex in an SUV. His previous eight-day police custody ended, leading to this latest court development.
According to his attorney, Anshu Shukla, Singh's mental health has deteriorated and he allegedly mistook the Assembly for a gurdwara. The Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences has assessed his condition, briefly admitting him and prescribing medication. Police argue further custody is necessary for continued investigation.
Singh, a 37-year-old supporter of the farmers' movement, entered through Gate No 2, intended for VIPs. A criminal case has been filed against him, citing charges such as criminal trespass and obstruction. The police continue to probe the motivations and circumstances surrounding this security breach.
