The International Criminal Court (ICC) is embroiled in a significant quandary, as its Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan faces potential disciplinary action due to sexual assault allegations against him.
Confirming a Wall Street Journal report, sources revealed that ICC member states voted to initiate proceedings, with 15 in favor, two abstentions, and four against the motion. Although Khan has denied any misconduct, he is currently on a leave of absence while an inquiry is underway.
This development has intensified scrutiny on the ICC, already under pressure due to U.S. sanctions and controversial arrest warrants. A divided response from member states, despite a judge's report questioning the strength of the allegations, underscores the institution's current challenges.
