The night curfew that had been in effect in parts of Meghalaya's West Garo Hills has been lifted as local authorities assess improved law and order in the region. According to officials, normal activities can now resume after the district endured a period of tension marked by violent clashes.
The curfew, which was in place between 6 pm and 6 am since March 19, was initially imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The situation escalated after two fatalities resulted from conflicts between tribal and non-tribal groups, heightening security concerns.
Authorities emphasize the continued need for public cooperation to maintain peace and order. Residents have been cautioned that any disturbance will lead to strict legal action. Law enforcement remains vigilant, ready to swiftly address any potential breaches of peace.
