Finnish President Alexander Stubb conveyed to U.S. President Donald Trump that Europe is taking a more responsible role in NATO, according to an official statement on Wednesday. Stubb emphasized that a new shape for NATO is emerging with stronger European participation.
Meanwhile, President Trump revealed to Reuters his contemplation of withdrawing the U.S. from the NATO military alliance. He intends to further discuss this in a national address. Stubb and Trump engaged in constructive dialogue on NATO, Ukraine, and Iran, highlighting the need for pragmatic solutions to ongoing problems.
The shift towards a more European-centric NATO will feature prominently in discussions at the annual NATO summit, scheduled for July 7 and 8 in Ankara, as confirmed by Stubb's office.
