Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today completed his online self-enumeration for Census 2027 at Uprashtrapati Bhavan, marking a significant step in India's transition toward a fully digital census process.

In a social media message following the exercise, the Vice President encouraged citizens across the country to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and submit their household details online once notified by their respective State Governments and Union Territory Administrations.

Digital Census: A First for India

Census 2027 is being conducted as part of the Government's Digital India initiative, with a strong emphasis on:

  • Online self-enumeration through the official portal: se.census.gov.in

  • Use of digital tools for data collection and verification

  • Improved accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness in census operations

The move represents a major shift from traditional paper-based enumeration to a technology-driven, citizen-friendly approach.

Encouraging Public Participation

Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, the Vice President urged residents to:

  • Participate proactively in the self-enumeration phase

  • Provide accurate household and demographic details

  • Use the official portal when the notification window opens

This participatory model is expected to enhance both data quality and transparency.

The process was carried out in the presence of Shri Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, underscoring the importance of the initiative at the highest administrative level.

  • Improve policy planning and targeted welfare delivery

The adoption of digital census methods aligns with India's broader push toward e-governance and data-driven decision-making.

Towards a Modern, Efficient Census System

By combining technology with citizen participation, Census 2027 aims to create a more inclusive, efficient, and reliable data ecosystem, critical for planning India's future development trajectory.
