In Thane, BJP group leader Mukesh Mokashi has raised concerns over property tax discrepancies within the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC). During a budget discussion on Tuesday, Mokashi criticized the outdated tax rates that many commercial establishments continue to pay, calling for a comprehensive survey to address these fiscal 'leakages'.
Mokashi, formerly the deputy mayor, pointed out unauthorized constructions and the improper use of commercial spaces, such as the transformation of warehouse areas into hotels and showrooms, citing locations like Kothari Compound in Manpada and Mohan Mill Compound.
He further urged TMC corporators to cooperate in enhancing civic revenues and proposed the establishment of infrastructure for senior citizens and community activities, aiming to bolster the civic body's budget to Rs 15,000 crore. Additionally, Mokashi advocated for constructing an old-age home and a Kunbi Bhavan to support local community needs.
