The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in full effect across West Bengal's 294 assembly constituencies as authorities clamp down on illegal activities. Seizing cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies valued at over Rs 181 crore, officials are keen to maintain fair electoral processes.
As the assembly elections loom with voting dates set for April 23 and 29 and counting on May 4, extensive efforts to remove unauthorized political advertisements are underway. The Chief Electoral Officer's office reports that a total of 3,11,829 public defacements and 19,901 private defacements have been cleared.
To uphold law and order, 1,800 Flying Squad Teams and 2,200 Static Surveillance Teams are deployed across the state. Kolkata Police, alongside central forces, mitigate rising tensions in areas like Baranagar and Kalighat. Arrests regarding voter intimidation and illegal arms seizures have further supported these measures.
