Odisha Aims for a Maoist-Free Future by 2026
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, announced in the state assembly that the state aims to be Maoist-free by 2026. Presently, only a small number of Maoists are active near the Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada borders. Efforts include rehabilitation programs for surrendered Maoists.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared a commitment to eradicating Maoist presence in Odisha by 2026. Currently, 15 Maoists are reported active along the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Rayagada border.
According to the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, only Kandhamal district is officially recognized as Left-wing Extremism affected, although several others are designated as legacy and thrust districts.
Majhi outlined the state's rehabilitation initiatives for Maoists who surrender, including financial aid, vocational training, and health benefits. In one year, 96 Maoists have surrendered, reflecting progress in restoring peace.
