The Supreme Court on Friday released Muppidi Avinash Reddy on bail, a central figure in the Andhra Pradesh liquor policy scam. The scam allegedly involved large-scale corruption and a kickback network functioning between 2019 and 2024.

A Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, acknowledged that bail had been granted to 11 accused in the case. Reddy, previously fleeing to Sri Lanka to avoid arrest, returned, surrendered, and underwent interrogation.

Critics from the state government stressed the severity of the Rs 730-crore scam and condemned Reddy's alleged role in generating illicit funds and using shell companies for activities. Despite opposition, the bench allowed bail, citing the unique circumstances, with conditions set by the trial court.
