Chongqing Mayor Under Investigation in Anti-Corruption Campaign
Hu Henghua, the mayor of Chongqing, a major municipality in China, is under investigation for alleged serious violations of law and discipline. This comes as part of China's anti-corruption crackdown, intensified by recent removals and arrests of senior officials. Details of Hu's investigation remain undisclosed.
Hu Henghua, the mayor of Chongqing, is currently under investigation by China's anti-corruption watchdog, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI). The investigation follows allegations of serious violations of law and discipline.
This probe is part of a broader anti-graft campaign by the Chinese government to eliminate corruption and enforce strict discipline within the ruling Communist Party. The crackdown has already seen multiple senior officials targeted through investigations, removals, and arrests in recent years.
Chongqing, a significant municipality equivalent to a province, is one of China's four direct-administered municipalities alongside Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai. Although the CCDI has not released specifics about the allegations against Hu, the mayor was previously issued a disciplinary warning in 2023 for failing to oversee safety regulations, leading to a fatal building collapse in Changsha in 2022.
