Major Surrender of Naxal Leaders Marks Decline of Extremism in Gadchiroli

A significant shift in the battle against extremism took place in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, as eleven Naxalites, including senior leaders, surrendered to the police and CRPF. This marks a crucial development in the district's ongoing efforts to curb Naxalite activity.
The group included a divisional commander, an area committee secretary, and members of critical operational committees. The Maharashtra government had placed a hefty Rs 68 lakh bounty on these individuals, highlighting their importance within the Naxalite movement.
According to officials, this surrender is a testament to the diminishing influence of Left Wing Extremism in the region, a trend observed since 2025. With 123 Maoists surrendering since then, and 794 overall, extremist activities have narrowed down significantly, largely restricted to the border areas of Bhamragad sub-division.
