Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, delivered a stern message on Thursday regarding the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan. Speaking in Rawalpindi to Ulema from the Shiite community, he asserted that Pakistan would not tolerate Afghan soil being used to facilitate terrorism.
His comments followed the launch of Operation Ghazab lil Haq on February 26, a move in response to alleged attacks by Afghan Taliban forces along the extensive border. Munir reiterated the importance of eliminating terrorist infrastructure threatening Pakistan and called for Afghanistan's cooperation in preventing such acts.
Highlighting Pakistan's role in regional diplomacy, Munir stressed the influence of Ulema in promoting unity and countering extremism. Expressing support, the Ulema denounced religious violence and pledged to uphold peace in collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Meanwhile, a temporary cessation of hostilities was agreed upon for Eid-ul-Fitr, with Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Qatar playing mediatory roles.
